Julieta Brambila, Ph.D., is a transwoman, media scholar and public official. She is a Communication Officer at the Minister of Finance in Mexico. Her duties include both designing and executing the internal and external communications strategy, as well as managing and directing press-government relations. In addition to this, she is currently in leave from her position as an Assistant Professor at the Communication Department, Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Mexico. She is a Research Scholar with the Center for Media at Risk, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania. Her research addresses: Comparative Political Communication, Press Freedom, Antipress Violence and Journalists’ Safety. About these topics, she has published over 12 journal articles and book chapters, and delivered over 45 conferences and talks in Japan, Europe and the Americas. She is a regular contributor to several media outlets both in English and Spanish.
